David Gott

David's Famous Gourmet

The man behind the brand

David started by experimenting with an old family ice cream recipe. When his oldest son was home on leave from Iraq, David served his coffee ice cream at a gathering for family and friends. The cheers he received for the sweet treat were encouraging, so David kept experimenting.

Four years ago, David took his homemade ice cream to RAGBRAI (The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa). This seven-day bicycle ride across the state is the oldest, largest, and longest bicycle touring event in the world. When RAGBRAI riders tasted David’s ice cream for the first time, it was a huge hit and a welcome treat after pedaling 60+ miles that day.

Because of the rave reviews, David started creating flavors beyond the coffee ice cream that got him started. He took these new flavors to picnics, dinners, choir rehearsals, board meetings, family and friends, church, and clients and employees at his full-time job.

After trying it, people kept telling David he should sell his ice cream—so he followed his fans’ advice by bringing David’s Famous Gourmet Frozen Custard to life.

Frozen Custard vs. Ice Cream: What’s in a Name?

Frozen custard is simply ice cream with at least 1.4% egg yolk solids. David’s Famous has 4%. We have to call it “frozen custard” on our label, but we’re not sticklers—call it whatever you want!
